Stories in Futures: Expressions of Interest OPEN!

Many women complete education but face invisible barriers to employment. Under-represented women experience compounded challenges:

  • Confidence and self-advocacy

  • Limited Access to Professional Networks

  • Difficulty articulating skills and strengths

  • Translating learning into opportunity

  • Risk of disengagement despite qualifications

Why NOW!

  1. Critical transition point post-education

  2. Equity gaps persist in employment access

  3. Confidence and communication are key employability skills

Stories into Futures programme centres 25 women from under-represented communities in Canterbury, designed to use digital storytelling as a practical bridge between education and employment.

Brought to you by Ako Ōtautahi Learning City Christchurch in partnership with Graduate Women Canterbury and Digital Storytellers.

Who is this for: Women who have invested in education but continue to face barriers in translating that learning into meaningful work opportunities. Participants will develop the skills to shape and communicate their learning journeys, strengths, and aspirations through story, supported by coaching, scriptwriting, and pitching practice.

2026 Programme:  July - October 2026 (four month journey)

  • Increased confidence and self-efficacy (strengths coaching)

  • Stronger communication and employability skills

  • Tangible outputs (digital story + personal pitch)

  • Sustained peer support and networks
